Russia’s most international university marked its jubilee.

The government decree on the establishment of People’s Friendship University came out on February 5, 1960. RUDN was conceived as a higher education centre for foreign nationals. Back then, 539 young people from 57 countries were admitted to first-year studies. The first student card was issued to Ahmed Murad Taki from Sierra Leone; he graduated from the RUDN medical faculty in 1966. Some 200,000 people from nearly all countries of the world have graduated from RUDN University since. Many had successful careers and advanced to senior posts at leading companies or governments of their countries. In 2010, UNESCO awarded RUDN a gold medal for its contribution to training specialists for developing countries.

The jubilee celebrations were held on a massive scale; RUDN University accepted best wishes on the occasion and arranged alumni reunion parties and a concert at the Kremlin Palace. It designed the jubilee website to provide information on upcoming events and show the memory album which is updated daily with graduates’ photos of their student years.

Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia provides education to more than 33,000 students, including 9,000 foreign nationals from 157 countries.
