TPU: Two Degrees for Foreigners
Chinese and Mongolian graduates learnt two professions at the university.
Eleven international students of the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University were awarded a degree in the chosen qualification and an extra degree in translation from/into Russian. They successfully passed the final examination to prove the translation competence in professional communication.
Currently there are 30 students on the Russian language programme which TPU launched five years ago. The curriculum includes grammar, stylistics, translation theory and the basics of academic and business communication through practice in Russian-speaking environment. Length of study: 2.5 years.
The profession of translator gives international students a competitive edge when looking for jobs in their native country or abroad. Many believe that the knowledge of the Russian language and culture and strong translating skills are important for their future profession.
