Russia is one of the world's sporting powers and the victories of Russian sportsmen at major world tournaments prove this point year after year.

Russia regularly hosts a variety of competitions, including those of international level: the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan. Three world championships and two European championships are to take place in 2016 and the FIFA World Cup in 2018 to be held in 11 Russian cities.

The holding and preparation of such events requires a state-of-the-art infrastructure, including sports complexes, stadiums, ski runs, training bases and other facilities for professionals and amateurs alike.

When you study in Russia, you can watch major sporting events, support your favourite teams and see stars from the world of sport. Just see which Russian sportspeople you already know.
