Arctic universities discussed the development of science and education in the region

Representatives of universities, federal agencies and businesses took part in the strategic session "The role of universities in solving the problems of the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation".

They had to develop modern approaches to the development of science and higher education in the region. The event was held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

The goal of the session was to organize interaction between Arctic universities to jointly solve a number of problems: attracting and retaining professional personnel, as well as increasing the contribution of universities to the development of the region.

Deputy Director of the Department for Coordination of Activities of Educational Organizations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia Konstantin Bogonosov emphasized that all universities, including universities in the Arctic zone, face an ambitious task - to create new unique educational programs, laboratories, attract and train young specialists to work in science and higher education.

During the plenary discussion "Tasks and Challenges in Education in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation," the participants discussed issues relevant to the educational sector of the region. Thus, the main topics were the interaction of business and universities, the transformation of Arctic universities and scientific and technological development.

Director of the Department for Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and Implementation of Infrastructure Projects of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East Maxim Dankin noted the specifics of conducting any activity in the Arctic. According to him, this is due to certain restrictions that those who receive education here and create new technologies used directly in this zone know how to work with. As a rule, Arctic cities are university cities. The role of universities in the region is to prepare the innovative component of developing unique resources in an environment that is important for economic well-being.

On the second day of the session, representatives of universities and industrial companies were divided into working groups. They defined approaches to managing partnerships, human capital, and also assessed the idea of creating competence centers in universities.

The event was attended by representatives of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov, Murmansk Arctic University, Polar State University named after N. M. Fedorovsky, Ukhta State Technical University.

The session was organized by the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, the operator of the Priority-2030 program, the Federal State Autonomous Institution Sociocenter, the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, the Integration Education Development Center, and the Arctic Element Project Office.
