The training is practically-oriented and is aimed to provide the students with systematic knowledge and medical competencies, necessary to carry out professional activities.
A surgeon practitioner is one of the most sought-after medical specialties. The residents master techniques and methods of performing surgical interventions, acquire in-depth medical and general biological knowledge, learn to determine the most effective methods of surgical treatment. The Program provides for regular practical externships at the premises of clinical sites in local hospitals and regional centers. Besides, as part of the curriculum the residents attend lectures delivered by outstanding specialists. The residents assist in surgeries, participate in consultations, work in outpatient clinics, take part in scientific conferences, keep medical records and perform medical and diagnostic manipulations. They work as practitioners under a direct supervision of experienced attending doctors.
The residency graduate is a qualified specialist in possession of modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment, entitled to carry out therapeutic, diagnostic and research activities, or conduct private medical practice. Upon completion the graduate is certified as a surgeon, which gives him or her access to careers in large specialized centers or surgical wards in multi-profile hospitals, public hospitals, higher medical schools. The graduates are also given a chance to apply for a postgraduate course in Surgery with a view to further research work or administrative positions.
