Our subsoil is a unique natural capital! However, to transform it into social, human and natural capital, we need a truly highly qualified mining engineer. About organization
On October 21, 1773, Catherine II wrote "so be it" on her decree to establish an engineering school for the mining industry. This date became the birthday of all higher technical education in Russia. Today, the Mining University delivers basic higher education with assigning the qualification of engineer for major Russian and foreign companies engaged in forecasting, prospecting, exploration, development, and processing of essential types of minerals: oil, gas, ores of noble, non-ferrous, and rare metals, precious stones. The University includes 9 faculties: geological exploration, oil and gas, mining, construction, mechanical engineering, mineral processing, economics, and energy ones, as well as the Institute of Basic Engineering Education. A diploma from the Mining University is a sign of quality and an excellent start in life.

Military Training Center
The Military Training Center of the Saint Petersburg Mining University was founded in 1926. It has one of the best technical equipment in our country for training reserve lieutenants of air defense forces.
Sports
The training centers of the Saint Petersburg Mining University include multifunctional sports halls, martial arts halls, a climbing wall, and gyms.
The second training center houses a sports complex called "Swimming Pool" with a total area of 3,500 sq.m.
Dormitories
Saint Petersburg Mining University offers students accommodation in 9 comfortable dormitories equipped with gyms, laundries, and canteens. The dormitories are located on Vasilievsky Island within walking distance from the training centers.
The total accommodation stock is more than 5,500 beds.
Training and Research Faciliti
A distinctive feature of the Mining University is its practical orientation. Every year, its students undergo training at educational and scientific facilities in the Leningrad Region in the following areas:
- Drilling;
- Oil and gas;
- Geology and geophysics;
- Geodesy;
- Geological ecology.
Research Centers & Labs
Saint Petersburg Mining University has the largest scientific laboratory facilities in Russia: over 300,000 sq.m, including 5 research centers and problem-oriented laboratories where the students can obtain additional professional competencies regardless of their majors.
Training Centers
The Mining University includes 3 training centers, all located in the center of Saint Petersburg, on Vasilievsky Island. Students of the first two years study in the Engineering Building regardless of their majors. Each center has canteens, gyms, and recreation areas.
