About the University
Saratov State Medical University named after V.I. Razumovsky is one of the oldest medical universities in Russia. It was founded in 1909 by decree of Emperor Nicholas II with a single medical faculty. The first rector was the outstanding surgeon V.I. Razumovsky, whose name the university has borne since 2009. The main buildings were constructed under the direction of architect K.L. Mufke.
In 1930, it became an independent institute, and in 1993 it received university status.
Today, SSMU is a leading research and clinical center with 14 specialized clinics. More than 10,500 students study here, including 1,350 international students, and the university graduates over 1,000 specialists every year. Since 2021, 15 new in-demand fields of study have been introduced, including programs taught in foreign languages—English and French.
Since 2021, the university has been included in the TOP-100 of the National University Ranking of the Russian Federation and in the global THE Impact Rankings.
While preserving its century-old traditions, SSMU is transitioning to an innovative university model that organically combines research and education.

Research facilities
To conduct fundamental and applied research, the university has established advanced research facilities: the Central Research Laboratory (CRL), as well as its own institutes: the Research Institute of Cardiology, NIITON, and the Research Institute of Fundamental and Clinical Uronephrology.
Clinical practice
The Clinical Center of SSMU is one of the three largest university clinics in the Volga region. It comprises 14 specialized clinics, including four university teaching hospitals, equipped with advanced medical technology. This gives students access to a rich clinical base and provides them with essential practical experience.
International education
The Institute of International Medical Education at V.I. Razumovsky Saratov State Medical University provides education to more than 1,350 students from 60 countries. The institute coordinates academic and student development processes, handles documentation, and communicates with students’ families. An effective system of tutors and academic advisers supports student adaptation.

At the Preparatory Department, international students prepare for admission to Russian universities by studying Russian up to TORFL Level 1, as well as core and additional subjects (biology, chemistry, physics, and Russian history). Upon completion, graduates can communicate confidently in everyday and academic environments.
Sports complex
The university supports student initiatives promoting a healthy lifestyle. Its sports infrastructure includes several fully operational, multipurpose sports halls and its own swimming pool. The university also has a comfortable winter sports facility and a summer recreation camp.
Student Club
SGMU has created all the conditions for students from different countries to pursue their interests and fulfil their potential outside the classroom. The university has a student club with numerous fully equipped creative studios. Here, students come together, rehearse, and prepare for performances at university and city events.
