Over the course of 120 years, Saint Petersburg State Agrarian University has undergone many changes, but its walls still preserve the legacy of the scholars who worked for the prosperity of Russian agriculture.
About the University
The Federal State-Funded Educational Institution of Higher Education “Saint Petersburg State Agrarian University” was founded in 1904. In 2024, the University celebrated its 120th anniversary.
The mission of the University is to train a new generation of highly qualified specialists in demand in the agro-industrial sector and to promote the innovative development of the country’s agricultural economy through continuously updated, high-tech and high-quality educational and research products and services, in support of and to implement the Food Security Doctrine of the Russian Federation.
The University’s research activities focus on 5 key areas:
- breeding and seed production of perennial grasses;
- breeding, genetics and reproductive biology of dairy cattle;
- increasing the productivity of poultry, including egg and meat production;
- development of unmanned systems and robotic complexes for the agro-industrial sector;
- comprehensive analysis of rural development issues.

The new educational and laboratory building of Saint Petersburg State Agrarian University (SPbGAU) is located in Pushkin.
