The Rector
St Petersburg State University has always been, and remains, a classical university that combines tradition with innovation. About the University
Saint Petersburg State University is Russia’s first university and one of the largest research and educational centers in Europe and the world.
In 2024, Saint Petersburg University celebrated its 300th anniversary. Today, Russia’s oldest university is a world-class research and educational center and holds high positions in international rankings.
Students study here and experts from around the world work here; the unique shared-use research complex “SPbU Science Park” operates, breakthrough research projects are launched and cutting-edge discoveries are made, while SPbU representative offices operate and joint educational centers have been established in various countries around the world.
The SPbU Language Testing Center has been one of the leaders in testing foreign nationals’ language proficiency for more than 20 years.
Today, the University has more than 500 partners in over 60 countries, and students can participate in student mobility programs.

Science Park
The SPbU Science Park comprises 22 resource centers. Its total area exceeds 30,000 square meters. More than 200 specialists work here to operate the equipment and conduct research. The Science Park’s unique infrastructure is available to scientists from around the world.
Gorky Library
The Scientific Library of Saint Petersburg University is a monument to Russian education, science, and culture, and one of the oldest and largest libraries in Russia. Its collections comprise more than 7,000,000 printed books and manuscripts. Students have access to more than 126,000,000 electronic resources.
Dormitories
The SPbU dormitory complex is rightly considered the largest in the city (13,710 places).
It offers lounges, laundry facilities, cafés, shops, a pharmacy, an order pick-up point, sports halls and grounds, and Wi-Fi.

Laboratories and centers
Today, Saint Petersburg University is home to modern research centers, institutes and laboratories, as well as more than 644 research teams. Each year, over 50 scientific discoveries are made and approximately 15,000 research publications are published.
Sports
The University has well-developed infrastructure for physical education and sports. It offers a variety of sports clubs and facilities, and its students represent the University at a high level in Russian and international competitions.
