About the University
National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University is the oldest technical university in the Asian part of Russia. In 2026, it celebrates its 130th anniversary.
Today, Tomsk Polytechnic ranks first in Russia in oil and gas engineering (QS ranking; 30th in the global ranking), as well as in chemical technologies and energy (RAEX ranking), and is among the leaders in nuclear technologies, electronics, IT and other fields.
The university is a recognized center for research and the training of world-class specialists in nuclear and hydrogen energy, oil and gas extraction and transportation, IT, non-destructive testing, energy and electrical engineering, electronics, nanotechnology, and biotechnology.
The university has more than 100 research laboratories and centers. Tomsk Polytechnic’s research infrastructure includes a research nuclear reactor—the most powerful university reactor in Russia. It is the only operating nuclear facility in the country where international students can receive training.
