And the term Universitat itself is translated from German as an educational institution where students study both fundamental and applied fields. About the University
Ulyanovsk State University is one of the leading universities in the Volga region, where about 14,000 students study. It was founded in 1988 as the first branch of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov in the country, and in 1996 it gained independent status. The traditions and quality of Moscow State University, which underlie the activities of the classical university in Ulyanovsk, have largely determined the nature of the university's development. More than 2,000 foreign students study at various faculties of Ulyanovsk State University. The university's infrastructure includes 23 educational and laboratory buildings, 15 sports and health facilities, three student dormitories, and a sanatorium and health complex. The scientific and pedagogical staff of the university includes 137 doctors of sciences, 63 professors, 496 candidates of sciences, and 242 associate professors. According to the National Ranking of Classical, Federal, and National Research Universities, since 2014, USU has annually been among the top 100 best universities in innovative Russia.
