About the University
Ural Federal University (UrFU) is one of Russia’s leading and largest universities, founded in 1920. UrFU is a comprehensive university offering programs in engineering, the humanities, and natural sciences in Russian and English at all levels of study (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral programs). In the QS World University Rankings, UrFU ranks 504th in the world, while in the ARWU ranking it is among the top 4–6 universities in Russia.
UrFU is located in the beautiful and safe city of Yekaterinburg, Russia’s third capital, in the heart of the country. UrFU is an international university with more than 50,000 students, including over 5,000 international students from 100 countries. UrFU has the status of a federal innovation platform and is one of the country’s centers of scientific activity.
UrFU has two campuses, including a new world-class campus opened in 2023, with modern infrastructure: 13 institutes, 16 academic buildings, 164 laboratories, and 18 dormitories.

A new world-class campus
A multidisciplinary student campus opened in 2023 under the federal programme “World-Class Campuses”. Its advanced educational environment includes 5 dormitories, a community centre, a medical centre, a stadium, and an aquatic sports palace. By the end of 2025, 3 academic buildings will have opened.
Scientific infrastructure: Pharm
The Research, Education and Innovation Center provides unique fundamental and applied education in chemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, and related fields. The Center participates in the commercialization of knowledge-intensive products developed at its facilities.
Dormitories in the city center
UrFU has 17 student dormitories in the city center, offering more than 12,000 places. Most of the dormitories are within walking distance of the academic buildings. The dormitories provide all the necessary facilities for comfortable living: kitchens, showers, laundry rooms, study rooms, gyms, and cafés.
Research infrastructure: MSU
The research complex of UrFU includes 164 laboratories, dozens of research centers, innovative infrastructure, a research library with a collection of more than 3 million publications, several museums, a botanical garden, and an astronomical observatory. It also has international laboratories.
