The Rector
Our university is a driver of development in the Arctic and the Russian Far East. NEFU has taken a significant step forward by focusing on its mission to serve as a flagship university for Russia’s geostrategic territories. Our changes encompass every aspect of our activities—from educational programs to scientific breakthroughs and infrastructure transformation—and all are guided by our key priorities: the Arctic, technological sovereignty, and human capital development.
About the University
NEFU is the leading university in Yakutia and Russia’s Arctic region, founded in 1956. The university comprises 18 academic units and three branches, with around 20,000 students enrolled. It trains highly qualified specialists across a wide range of fields—from traditional humanities and technical specialties to disciplines of particular relevance to the Arctic, such as petroleum and gas engineering and Arctic medicine. NEFU’s activities include more than 10 institutes, research centers, and international programs aimed at integrating education with practical experience.
Students not only gain high-quality knowledge in their future professions but also develop comprehensively: the university has creative groups, sports sections in various disciplines, and student organizations. Scientific societies are open in every academic unit, fostering the development of research skills.

Dolgun Swimming Pool
Students have access to swimming facilities with a large and a small pool, as well as changing rooms and showers. The large pool, measuring 25 × 11 m, is divided into 5 lanes and has a maximum depth of 3.4 m. The Medical and Rehabilitation Department provides restorative and health-improving services.
Yunost Stadium
The complex includes an indoor athletics arena and 3 sports halls. The ground floor of the sports complex houses an indoor athletics arena (total area: 1,028.5 sq. m) with a 100-metre track, running lanes and a long-jump pit, as well as a sports platform for practicing national sports.
Cultural Center “Sergelyakh Lights”
The Sergelyakh Lights Cultural Center is a renowned theater and concert venue in Yakutsk. It covers 4248 square meters and includes a 610-seat auditorium and a 124-seat balcony, spacious foyers and a winter garden, an exhibition hall (350 sq. m), hobby studios, and a buffet.
Mammoth Museum
The Mammoth Museum is one of the most popular museums in Yakutia and one of the landmarks of North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU). Every year, thousands of residents and visitors to the republic visit the museum. The museum’s main areas of activity are scientific research, museum and exhibition work, and international activities.
Center for Student Initiatives
The Student Initiatives Center is a new venue created specifically for students. This open space is available to all NEFU students and hosts events every week. The space is open daily for coworking and brings together dozens of students and staff members.
Botanical Garden
The Garden’s objectives include creating special collections of living plants to preserve and enrich the gene pool of the plant world, as well as conducting scientific, educational, conservation, and outreach activities; and developing fundamental and applied research aimed at their preservation.
