The Rector
Law is a fundamental discipline that develops distinctive ways of thinking in students. Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL) has a rich history, which has led to the establishment of dozens of schools in a wide range of areas of law. MSAL is the country’s largest specialized university, offering unique programs and departments focused not only on studying all the necessary theory but also on applying the knowledge acquired in practice.
About the University
Founded in 1931. Today, MSAL is the flagship of Russian legal education and one of the leading legal research centers in Russia and neighboring countries.
MSAL offers pre-university training, secondary, higher and continuing education programs in the following fields: general studies, innovative jurisprudence, international law and comparative law, international legal studies, public law, civil law and criminal law.
MSAL consistently ranks highly: 25th in the Forbes 2026 ranking of the best Russian universities, 26th in the RAEX-100 2026 ranking of the best universities in Russia, and 58th–69th among Russian universities in the 2025 Three University Missions international ranking.

Since its foundation in 1931, the university has come a long way, evolving from the Central Correspondence Courses in Soviet Law into the largest law university.
